14 Nights Around Zimbabwe

This 2 week tour of Zimbabwe begins at the thundering Victoria Falls, down to Hwange National Park where elephants roam free and lions rule, onto the breathtaking landscape of the Matabo Hills, then explore the ruins of Great Zimbabwe. Fly to Mana Pools to enjoy private safari experiences and relax in the serenity of Lake Mutirikwi.

Day by Day

Day One - Victoria Falls Hotel - Zambezi Cruise

2 nights at the luxury and exclusive Victoria Falls Hotel
The Victoria Falls Hotel, popularly known as “the grand old lady of the Falls”, is situated in the Victoria Falls National Park, a world heritage site, and is a member of the exclusive Leading Hotels of the World group. It is one of only three 1S0-accredited hotels in Zimbabwe.

  • Fly Johannesburg to Victoria Falls
  • Arrive at Victoria Falls Airport and proceed to Zimbabwe immigration desk (to pay for your visa fees if relevant).
  • Afternoon at Leisure to settle in and lunch
  • Private Sunset Cruise on the mighty Zambezi River (includes drinks and Snacks)
  • Return to the Hotel
  • Dinner at the Hotel

Day Two - Guided tour of The Falls - Dinner

  • Breakfast at the Hotel
  • In the morning Guided tour of the incredible Victoria Falls
  • Afternoon at Leisure to settle in and lunch
  • Evening steam train excursion onto the bridge watching the sunset and savouring the view of the Falls and the gorge and the Victoria Falls Hotel while sipping a sundowner drink

  • Suggestion Extra Cost: Boma Dinner (includes dancing, interactive drumming, a witchdoctor, hair braiding and much more...including the chance to enjoy the cuisine which among other dishes, includes game meat and the opportunity to eat a mopane worm (caterpillar) and get a certificate!)

Alternative: Overnight at Elephant Camp
The Elephant camp is situated only 10 minutes from Victoria Falls in a private concession within the Victoria Falls National Park. With an emphasis on exclusivity, the luxury tented suites all have private decks and plunge pools. The suites are all equipped with indoor and outdoor showers, huge baths, private lounges, mini bar and tea/coffee stations, overhead fans plus air conditioning and are all mosquito proofed.

The Elephant Camp overlooks a waterhole that is fed by natural streams in the rainy season that rush down to meet the Masuwe River, and the Zambezi gorges below the Falls. Walks and birding for guests supply boundless photographic opportunities in addition to the variety of activities that are available in Victoria Falls. Visitors can also enjoy interacting with the friendly elephants at the camp.

Day Three - Hide Safari Camp - Hwange

The Hide Safari Camp which has consistently won the best Safari Camp in Zimbabwe is an exclusive camp that caters for guests who want to see, experience and understand, and offers a “romantic” adventure.

The Hide is situated within Hwange National Park on its eastern boundary.  Hwange is Zimbabwe's largest national park, covering 14,650 square kilometres and is home to some of the most prolific game herds in Africa.  It contains over 107 species of animals and 405 species of birds.  It is also one of the few remaining sanctuaries in Africa where herds of up to 100 elephant may be seen.

Specially constructed hides near the waterholes make The Hide a photographer's paradise. Herds of elephant, buffalo, kudu, giraffe and wildebeest are a few of the variety of animals that can be seen - all of which are resident in the area. 

  • On arrival, private check-in with refreshing towels and non-alcoholic welcome drink

Day Four to Six - Safari and Game Drives

  • Awaken to the sounds of birdsong and early morning Safari Drive, return to the camp for a hearty breakfast
  • After breakfast, relax at the camp, perhaps spending time in the hide near the waterhole or a walk on the estate with your experienced guide
  • Enjoy Lunch at the Lodge overlooking the waterhole, and watch animals coming to drink in the midday heat
  • An afternoon siesta, before setting off on a game drive

Alternative: Somalisa Bush Camp
A small intimate tented camp tucked away subtly under a canopy of an acacia tree island on an ancient river system. Day Seven - Camp Amalinda

The National Park is known for its great granite boulders, view, bushman paintings, wildlife especially black eagles and leopard, as well as the burial site of Cecil John Rhodes, the founder of former Rhodesia and the dwelling place of Lobengula and various other famous African leaders.

Alternative: Big Cave Camp

Day Twelve - Harare - Mana Pools - Ruckomechi Camp

  • Breakfast at the Lodge
  • Driver will pick you up and drive you back to Harare
  • Arrive at Harare Airport for your flight to Mana Pools
  • Drop off car (it may be necessary to spend night in Harare)
  • Fly Harare to Mana Pools via Kariba
  • Arrive at Mana Pools where you will be picked up by Safari Vehicles and transferred to Ruckomechi Camp

Alternative: Norma Jeane’s Lakeview Resort
Norma Jeane’s Lakeview Resort, overlooking the peaceful Lake Mutirikwi, offers pleasant and friendly accommodation reminiscent of colonial times, near the Great Zimbabwe Monument. The Resort has 8 hotel rooms (with dining and lounge facilities), and 4 fully equipped self-catering (self contained) family lodges. Both hotel rooms and self-catering (self contained) chalets are en-suite, and all have private balconies with views across Lake Mutirikwi. 3 nights at Ruckomechi Camp
The area is renowned for large numbers of elephant, buffalo, hippo and eland, especially in the winter when they concentrate along the river. Predators such as lion, leopard and wild dog are all found in the area. Birdlife is superb, particularly for both mopane woodland and riverine species with numerous local specials like Collared Palm-Thrush, Racket-tailed Roller, Purple-banded Sunbird and Black-throated Wattle-Eyes.

Alternative: Kanga Camp
The private concession is set away from the crowds in a remote part of the legendary Mana pools where private safari experience are the focus, and walking game-tracking a specialty.
A 12 bedded seasonal camp built around a water hole, alive with wild-life galore being the only source of permanent water in the location.
Walking and game-drive activities in the area will be complimented by the Zambezi flood plain experience where one can have water based activities that include fishing and canoeing.
