Best of Zimbabwe

This safari will take you to two of the most remote wilderness areas in Zimbabwe, offering you comfortable and luxurious accomodation in exclusive safari camps, yet with two differing experiences: Somalisa Camp – a luxury tented camp in the heart of Hwange National Park, and either Zambezi Life Styles- a mobile tented camp set up along the Zambezi river or Kanga Pan, “your little private Africa” in a remote area of Mana Pools National Park.

Day by Day

Day One to Four - Hwange National Park - Somalisa Camp

Following your arrival at Victoria Falls Airport, you will be road transferred to Hwange Main Camp passing through traditional Ndebele villages on your way. You will be met by your African Bush Camps professional guide at Hwange Main Camp and transferred by game drive to Somalisa Camp, where you will spend three nights.

The camp: Somalisa Camp is set in the heart of Hwange National Park, known as the land of the giants for its large elephant herds. An authentic tented bush camp, Somalisa Camp offers a blend of old African charm and elegance together with an exclusive safari experience. Its stunning location tucked away on an acacia island along the edge of an ancient seasonal flood plain, gives it breath taking views of the savannah plains of the famous Kennedy Vlei line. At Somalisa Camp, you will experience the heightened romance of the African Bush in one of the most natural environments in Africa. This is the way Africa was meant to be explored.

The camp is made up of only six elegantly furnished canvas tents with en suite bathrooms, flush toilet and romantic alfresco bush showers. The décor echoes of an old era, from colonial to the ancient tribes of Africa, telling the story from all corners of this magnificent continent. It’s stunning main area and pool lends to complete relaxation, whether it be with a cup of tea or one of our refreshing cocktails; overlooking the pan where the herds of game congregate, offering rare moments with nature and outstanding experiences.

Your senses will be awakened and you will feast on our sumptuous cuisine, a balance of organic produce and innovative gourmet meals complemented by a choice of South African and Australian wines. Our meals are inspired by the Far East, Europe and Africa. You will discover new and seasonal flavours, which our imaginative chef will present you with.

The use of solar lighting ensures your comfort without interfering with the environment and the area’s natural surroundings. The lounge and dining area is at the forefront of the camp, tucked under a soaring canopy of trees. Wide and well-traversed Elephant paths make up the paths connecting your room to the main area.

Activities include guided walks lead by qualified and passionate guides who will share their knowledge and love of the bush with you, game drives and spot lighting as well as game viewing from hides.

The area: Walking and game drives will allow you the opportunity to observe elephant, kudu and sable antelope, zebra, wildebeest, gemsbok, the rare and endangered roan antelope, buffalo, giraffe, white rhino, lion, leopard, hyena, and many other wildlife species. The Kennedy vlei is littered with flamboyant colors from all its seasonal wild flowers that emerge as the first rains begin, and as the grass dries out, the large herds of buffalo, zebra and elephant are in abundance.

You then will head to Mana Pools, and can choose either to explore the National Park from Kanga Camp, or to go mobile along the Zambezi river with Zambezi Lifestyles.

Day Four to Seven-  Kanga Pan - Mana Pools National Park - Kanga Camp

After your last morning activity at Somalisa Camp you will be transferred by light air charter to Mana Pools. Here you will stay for the first two nights of your safari in Mana Pools, exploring the inland river beds, pans and open plains of the National Park by game drive and guided walks with an armed professional guide.

The camp: Kanga Bush Camp has six tents set in the heart of Mana Pools National Park. The main area of the camp is built on decking overlooking the pan and encompasses a relaxing lounge area under the shade of large trees surrounding the pan.

The wildlife & activities: There is the choice of taking game drives in an open-top four-wheel drive vehicle or walking with a professional guide. Mana Pools is one of the few National Parks in Africa which allows visitors to leave the vehicle and track game on foot. Other activities include night drives as well as canoeing which is organised on request. Game abounds on the flood plains and in the Mopane woodlands of Mana Pools. Kanga Pan particularly attracts great game in big concentrations as it is the only water found in the floodplain above the river. The predators, including lion, wild dog and leopard are often sighted. Large concentrations of buffalo, kudu, zebra, impala and waterbuck can be found in the Mopane woodland and open plains which are idyllically studded with Ilala Palms. Elephants take advantage of the plentiful “albida” trees in the area. Bird watching is also a great attraction of the area.

Day Four to Seven - Mana Pools National Park - Zambezi Lifestyles

After breakfast at Somalisa Camp, you will be transferred by light aircraft from Hwange to Mana Pools and begin your three nights on the Zambezi River in our Zambezi Life Styles Camp for an experience like no other.

The area: This safari takes you to several prime spots of this World Heritage site allowing you to explore new territory every day. Wildlife to be seen includes hippos, crocodiles, lions, wild dogs, leopard, hyenas, elephant, buffalo, waterbuck and many other antelope.

Avtivities: There are plenty of opportunities to walk the famous floodplain of the Zambezi valley, exploring the Mana Pools wilderness areas well off the beaten track. Canoeing is an optional activity which will probably see you doing light paddling along the river for a few hours. The whole trip will be along the shoreline in Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools National Park covering a total distance of about 50 kilometers, where you’ll enjoy viewing of wildlife from a totally different perspective.

The camp: Each night you will return to the tented Camp, which is a comfortable camp set up along the banks of the Zambezi. Each tent is a spacious mini meru-style tent with en-suite bathroom, flush toilet and outdoor bucket shower.

Day Seven -  Mana Pools - Victoria Falls Airport

After your last morning in Mana Pools you will be transferred by light air craft to Victoria Falls Airport for your onward travel arrangements. (End of Safari)
